Cool place! Im not from majority euro- American culture, so its always a good thing to get outside my comfort zone. And this is a good place for it. The people who work here are very kind and are ok with me bringing stuff up to the register and asking what you use it for. If you have seen Indian recipes in cookbooks and have been reluctant to try because of the spice combinations, look at the aisle of value-priced spice packages and grab the right box rather than trying to find each individual outer in the recipe. If you are ever tempted to buy paneer (the delicious Indian farmers cheese) at New Seasons, go to Apna instead. Its about one-fifth the price.

The stock is pretty good, and we find things here that arent available in the other neighboring Indian stores. However, the rude customer service of the front desk/check out clerk (actually, Im just referring to one clerk here, and many of you probably know who that is) is really a shame. No one expects a big smile or anything, but at least stop slamming and swinging things on the table, as if the customer is creating a great disruption in your otherwise fine day. Even basic politeness is missing, worse than the local bania of India. I have stopped going to this store particularly because of such effrontery.

In my bill I found error in amount vs Item. I asked to check for it. They said go and bring the item. When I go to bring the items from my Car the sentence from reception is "Bill ki badi amoun dekhakar chakkar aa gaye lagte hai(Getting giddy from big bill)" and then laugh. And when it they find their mistake they said Sorry sorry. I will say mistake can happen and I dont mind it. But they make joke of customer. I agree with other reviewers that they are taking advantage of being alone in area. I ask to owner to teach good customer oriented manner to their staff.

Update: the food court quality has dropped significantly. We ordered a paratha and it was nearly empty. Also ordered bhindi (okra) fry and it was soaked in oil and very dark/overcooked. Best Indian grocery in the Portland area but chai could be better. They also serve food in a food court atmosphere (snacks reasonably priced but meals restaurant price). Its a great way to meet/see other Indians. Unfortunately my only complaint is their chai is very plain and tastes very oxidized like its been on the stove too long.

The best place that I get henna/Mehndi cones from in Oregon so far. Ive always gotten my jumbo cones from here for around $3-$4 and the quality is very good. I always recommend that my friends get their mehndi from here. Their hours are convenient also: Mon-Fri: 11:30am - 8:30pm Sat: 11am - 8pm Sun: 11am - 6pm Ive also tried some of their ready-made foods and its pretty good. :d Usually, you need to ask them for the cones from the front desk as its usually behind the counter.

Clean Indian Groceries, I love the young and energetic enthusiastic staff, eagerly waiting to serve you with a smile. They do have some Organic Dals but popular ones in small quantities are not on shields! They have quite a good selection and I will visit again. BTW, they also have a decent food-restaurant, before coming, please check kitchen timing, which is not same as grocery store.

On multiple occasions, I have dined at their restaurant which is conveniently located within the store itself. Although the prices for the food items happen to be a bit high, the servings are copious and well worth the money spent. I have not yet shopped at the Indian store. Three stars for the amount of wait time after placing the order at the counter.

This place is a hidden gem! Amazing food and groceries. I have had the non-vegetarian thali everytime Ive gone and it is always has a different rotation of curries and sides. Absolutely amazing! I also stock up on my ghee over on the grocery side which offers plenty of imported as well as local and organic Indian staples. Its a must try!

I like that they carry organic dhals/beans, some organic spices and some seasonal organic vegetables. I dont buy packaged ready-made food, so cant comment there. But, I would like Apna Bazaar to have a paper bag option to carry groceries and to start encouraging the mostly Indian clientele to bring their own bags.

I am a big fan of Indian food. I had the lunch sample plate. Lots of great flavors, but it was really spicy. Be prepared. The restaurant is located in a business park. There is also an attached Indian bakery I intend to visit next time.

Wide selection of items, but their prices are inflated compared to other stores within driving distance. OTOH, the restaurant serves generally good food and Ive heard good things about their thali dishes.

Clean Indian Store. Now thats something you dont see everywhere. Prices tend to be a tad higher than other places. Can have more counters operating during busy times.
