I have been to this restaurant many times! 5 stars. Excellent, kind and attentive service, a menu selection that makes me feel Im on vacation in a quaint European town, tucked away in some secret place, outstanding chefs -- superior. I work with the public, and this is my most recommended place to dine. The bar is magnificent. The espresso is the best I have found (and, trust me...i search out espresso places in every town i visit). Outside tables, to relax at, sip a cappuccino and watch the people go by. Truly an experience no one should miss.. its a major part of the whole Astoria ambiance, in my opinion. The sushi is always perfect, and Friday evenings, Prime Rib... oh yes. Always perfect. Oh, and one more thing... the portion sizes.. extremely generous. Love this place! <3

I have been there three times and tried some of their novelty coffees, which are novel and interesting. The decor is nice and inviting. The service is truly what keeps me from being a patron. Every time I go there, I get terrible service. They consistently are curt and rude, and they did not give people their drinks (myself included) in the order they were purchased. I dont live on the coast for Portland-like service. Timely and friendly service are important to me, which is why Id never recommend anyone go there regardless of their food, which is decent. If urbane ambiance is your thing, this is your place. If timely, friendly service is--save money and time and go to Rusty Cup or Wheelhouse Coffee, both two blocks away in different directions.

When I moved here years ago, this Bistro moved in. I would sit outside and read, smoke sooogies and have their coffee.(yum)When the weather got bad I moved inside and the waiters at the time would talk to me, strike up a conversation for a few minutes(Tony did this regularly+other people.God bless you Tony+) I became a regular because I really needed the contact and also the friendliness. I hear now that there is not that much turnover because the managers treat the people hired so very well. Good Job! I really respect and like that place and the food is top notch! Thank you so much for caring! That shows very good standards. Integrity, graciousness and professionalism are keys to having a place that will last and also expand. Anne E. M.

Ive never received such horrible service and I have been to thousands establishments all over the world. They where extremely slow, yet abundantly overstaffed, and somehow they managed to ignore my girlfriend and I for over 15 minutes as we waited to be seated. They would walk by glare at us, not say anything. Finally we got seated, and it was another 15! Minutes before the waitress took our order. She never once smiled and instead treated us like we where a burden. She brought our food, which tasted dreadful after another 45 minutes. She said a lot of distasteful comments that made it very clear she wish we would of dined somewhere else. I warn everyone.... avoid this place like a plague!

In my three times at ACH, service has been slow and a bit frustrating. But I kept coming back because their coffee is genuinely very, very good. This last time I visited (today, 8.14.09), they forgot our drink, were slack-jawed in their rude response "I dunno, I forgot I guess." That, plus sneers (literally) and the rolled eyes (literally) made us angry. Thats not a good feeling when you visit a service establishment like that. They didnt just make us feel frustrated and annoyed, they literally made us angry, like we literally wanted to yell at them and pick a fight. So... yes, their coffee is good. I recommend it for coffee. But their service is consistently questionable.

This restaurant does not accept children after 5:00pm because they feel "it gets too crowded." We stopped in to eat here just after 5:00pm on a Tuesday evening accompanied by a regular customer on a first-name basis with all the staff. The place was not at all busy with only 4 tables occupied (2 of those had children with them but they must have arrived at 4:59pm). We were told we could not be seated. The family that arrived after us were also turned away. This seems like a poor business move for a very casual restaurant in a small town that depends upon the family-oriented cruise ship business for survival.

I usually try a place out a couple times before I review a place. My wife and I have been here twice, ordered the same thing both times. The first time was a 5 star rating, great bloody marys and Holy Mole Burritos. It really was satisfactory. And the server was attentive even though it was swamped. The second time was a 1 star because the bloody marys were watered down with hardly any mix, the water pitcher was dirty, food cold, and the server was ignoring most the patrons. Maybe it was an off day or because lunch had just started. I might try it again someday, but Im wary about consistency.

Food was really good. Service was bad. Pretty sure our server hated us. No clue why. Granted it was a busy morning, but its the service industry. We watched another server take the little cup of ketchup off of a dirty plate shed just cleared and set it back on the tray of ketchup to be used again. So gross. Major health code violation. The tongs they were using to grab pastries off the display were then hooked on a really dirty shelf rack. Id almost wished shed just used her hands. The talent at this place is in the kitchen. Order your food at the coffee counter and just eat outside.

Few times have I ordered something at a restaurant and had the desire to send it back before even taking a bite. The meatload sandwhich at this place made me want to do that. Unfortunately I didnt send it back... I ate it. I regretted that decision for the rest of the day. My girfriend ordered a cobb salad which ran $18 although the menu we were given appeared to have it prices at $13... The salad consisted of greens which you could buy at Safeway for $5, ranch and chicken that probably came out of a freezer and went into a microwave... Do yourself a favor and just dont do it.

Ive been here many times for coffee and never had a bad experience. On our way back to Portland we stopped by here to get coffee and a snack to take on the road. I ordered a slice of coffee cake. I took one bite of it before realizing the entire bottom was covered in mold. I freaked out a little because Im pregnant. It was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. Coffee shops need to have daily baked goods, who knows how long this cake was sitting around. Needless to say, we will never be back. Luckily there are a lot of good coffee shops in the area.

I was a little disappointed with this place because I saw high reviews. Maybe I just ordered the least tasty thing on the menu. The service was very friendly and the food was okay. The burger was pretty dry and nothing special. The clam chowder had okay flavor but seemed like it had been sitting on the warmer for quite a while. The fries were tasty and so were the biscuits they served before eating. The atmosphere was hip and the presentation of the food was very lovely. Nothing to write home about though. Just okay at best.
