Weve been shopping here since they first opened as we live walking close. The original owners were good professional, caring of product and image and they understood the business and the clientele they were connecting to. The new owners however sell stinking repackaged and obviously expired premium/"Organic" meat/poultry and argue when you bring it back, in fact they always refuse to take it back, always somehow its my fault for buying their rotted meat/poultry. They do the same for the fish as well. I actually had the younger fish monger (who no longer works there) claim that he did not smell the putrid rotting stench coming from the 2LBS of premium large shrimp I had just purchased hours before, and it went right to the refrigerator so I had not let it rot, it was sold to me that way. They are very deceptive with posted prices in the produce vs how it rings up, two very different prices. They get very combative there as well when called on it. They do not seem to understand the concept of accountability for bad product or false labeling. Quite frankly the market is poorly run by not so nice people. And one of the show pieces of the old owners, the produce aisle is now poorly maintained and has dropped fast in quality too from its last owners original top shelf quality. Its very common to see soft spoiled onions that most likely froze sitting on top of the pile so you have to dig through many of them to get at non rotted product below. Always nice to get rotted onion goo all over you. Go in there at anytime, loiter about the register area and you will find the owners arguing and fighting with many shoppers, menacing them and refusing to take back bad or mislabeled product. People leave angry very frequently, I kid you not. Its very distasteful writing this but I feel compelled to after so many negative experiences with them. They need a reboot of their people skills and an understanding that people are not schmucks to be taken advantage of and that we know when we are being cheated. When engaged most of the hourly staff is very nice and accommodating, but their turnover is very high and they seem miserable much of the time. The owners really are nasty. While convenient, it is not worth the aggravation to shop here. One section at a time starting with meat I stopped purchasing from them. Im done with this place. My fiance and I are among the demographic they covet , we eat well, and cook sophisticated as well as will pay for top quality yet what they deliver is smoke and mirrors deception and down right nastiness. It appears by the less than crowded density at peak shopping times my guess is others are fed up too. They will weed themselves out of business eventually. Too bad, as the neighborhood grew fast around us we were excited as the old owners were seemingly finding their way and good store, but I guess they just opened it to flip it. These new guys are making their own empty bed

The store is beautiful and is loaded with lots of gourmet goodies. Also, the first time I shopped there, I arrived after deliveries were done for the day, and they delivered my food anyway with one of the workers using a cart to wheel the food 4 blocks to my home. That first time, everyone in the store was very nice and very helpful. The one negative thing, and it is significant, was that one of the packages of chicken that according to the label was still good for 4 days, was spoiled. I cooked it right away so it is not like it sat around. I have shopped there since and no other problems. sometimes the staff is very nice, other times, not so much, but I have never spoken to anyone remotely describable by the word rude and I am very big on manners. I own a business myself so I know how important these qualities are. If people are describing employees as rude, they should let the owner know so he can address it. It would make their shopping experience much better and allow him to keep his lovely market, in business. Stores that offer such a wide variety of products, especially those that are independently owned (as opposed to the big, corporate chains) should be encouraged. They are good for our neighborhood. All in all, I like this store quite a lot and expect to continue to shop there.

Ive been coming here for a couple of years now because I prefer to support small businesses in the neighborhood instead of the larger chain supermarkets. However, recently the quality of the produce here has been suffering, & apparently so is the meat: I purchased a free-range organic chicken last Wednesday & intended to cook it for my family on the following night. When I cut open the bag the following day the chicken smelled completely rancid even after washing it thoroughly. While I was disappointed, these things do happen, right? Well, what shouldnt happen is when I brought the chicken back on Friday both managers rudely wouldnt even consider refunding or crediting my purchase of a $17 rotten chicken. They exclaimed that they "dont have problems with their organic chickens." Then, without so much as an apology or even smelling the putrid bird, I had no choice but to leave embarrassed, & NEVER to return. Anyway, its a major loss for them, not me. I spent around $200-250/week there, & by not refunding a $17 rancid chicken, Brooklyn Market has lost roughly a $12,000 a year customer. My Advice: Go to Foodtown on 3rd avenue @ 91st street. Better quality & selection, & super easy returns on substandard products.

We shop there about 3 times a week, as its the closest supermarket to us. Place has really gone downhill in the last few months. It looks like the Food Emporium took it over (used to be independently owned, and then owned by C-Town). Today I went to buy one of their premade dinners, which were on sale, and discovered that about 75% of them were several days past the expiration date. Please be aware - they almost NEVER update their sale prices in the computer. The other day, 6 out of 9 items rang up the wrong price, and the check-out girl gave me an attitude for pointing out that I was being overcharged. Same thing happened this morning with 3 of my items, and I had to fight to get a sale price on soup because the checkout person thought I was lying. Absolutely horrible customer service and pricing accuracy. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

Brooklyn Market at first seems like a charming idea. But overtime I go there theres never any room in the aisles for shoppers. Workers are constantly in your way unpacking boxes you can barely shop.Mangers need to set up a specific time for this. You barely have space. It happens every time I have been there. Now I decided not to return. Produce seems to have gone down a bit, and I notice prices have gone up for them to cover their costs. Plus I have friends who have shopped here and they have purchased meats that were rotten and not as "organic" and fresh as they state. Also the vibe of the employees seem to be underpaid. Unhappy and whats with the managers just micro managing at check out. Guys train your peeps and let them be. Seems sexist. Especially when all check out employees are women. I actually miss Foodtown and will be back to my loyalty there.
