This place is the real deal. Id ridden to work, picked up a slow leak, and was fully flat when I walked out, of course in a hurry to get somewhere on time. Didnt catch the guys name, but I presume hes the owner, and he had me back out the door in three minutes. $18.50 for tube and install, seems fair to me. Honestly I was more impressed with his demeanor. Ive never seen a mechanic like this guy (car, motorcycle, bicycle etc.) I only talked with while he was ringing me up, but hes competent, kind, and interested in what he does. He didnt come off like an affected hipster who want you to think hes cool first, and knowledgeable second, and he didnt come off like a salesman wanting to push parts, and he didnt come off like a know-it-all. FWIW, Im not a bike nut, and I dont understand why people exercise, so you might not find what you need in this shop if "bike culture" matters to you, or if you wear those funny jerseys (maybe he sells them, I didnt look). Im only a practical seasonal commuter, but Im serious about my bike as a tool. 15 miles round trip, rain or shine in the spring and fall, but deep winter and high summer are too much for me. And when I talked to this guy, I felt like there was an understanding. I know how silly that sounds, and I dont care. I liked this place a lot. As for reports of rudeness, I dont know. Its hard to take you guys seriously. Lets have a poll: sound off if you have worked at least one consecutive year of laboring at production, service or retail, *and* you think this guy was rude to you. Anyone? No?

The Dr is a no nonsense, get the job done right, without second guessing, solution finder. Some may not see the friendly nature, but thats because he isnt the type to beat around the bush and flower what he has to say. I personally prefer these characteristics and feel more comfortable getting my precious imported bike fixed and maintained by someone who I can trust. Been to many bike shops that have beginners who provide made up stories and second guess solutions. The Dr respects himself enough not to make up fairy tale stories. This level of respect for me is what I needed in order to trust someone to repair my imported and highly valuable bike. I find it amusing when he is critical and says how much of a perfectionist I am about my bike, but thats the truth and I appreciate he notices that and appreciate that he is comfortable enough to speak his mind. For me honestly and being straight forward is the most important thing. Prices are very fair and if you are surprised by the prices thats because you are looking at the cost in comparison with the cost of the bike. At the end of the day its all about the time that needs to be spent and we all know that is the most valuable investment of any repair. You are much appreciated and have earned the name Bicycle Doctor!

I will not say that the Bike Doctor isnt an expert. I recently purchased a bike online and having never assembled one before I decided to get some advice first. I initially called this guy and he said $55 plus tax, so I went to see if me buying tools that Ill need anyways will be cheaper. I spent $22 on a wrench and a set of allen keys, I went to this bike doctor to see what a torque was and why I needed one. He simply said "Let me cut to the end of this conversation, I dont mean to discount you but I can tell that if you are asking this question youre not very knowledgeable about bikes and you should bring it to a professional" less than 2 hours later my bike was fully assembled by me and running smoothly thanks to a youtube video about this specific model. Now Im one more biker in NYC who will be avoiding your business because thats not how you talk to people, and thats not how you educate your client to keep them coming back. Had he given me some solid advice I would go to him for everything since hes up the block from me, but he screwed it up. Professional, not very friendly = let me find someone else with good vibes and a set of skills because theyre a dime a dozen in williamsburg

This mechanic does not stand by his work. I came (referred by the positive reviews here) there needing two tires patched and pumped. He told me I needed entire new tires, and then installed two tires that were too big, which he also didnt mount correctly. The main thing, though, was he pumped up the back wheel on one of my bikes, then ripped the valve off. I walked the bike home, and that formerly perfect tire was completely flat. The valve had been ripped apart. I took it back the next day, and he not only pretended to not remember me even coming there, he told me that a tire he breaks on my bike isnt his responsibility. Because, you know, WHO KNOWS what kind of condition it was in before I came there. I paid him $60 for two ill-fitting tires, and he broke my bike. This guy is absolute scum. There is no reason to ever give him any more of your money.

Ive been going to The Bicycle Doctor for a decade. Im here to tell you that Alex is the real deal. Sure, maybe he doesnt have the sunniest disposition, but he knows bikes better than any of the other bike shops around and he is completely honest and forthright, qualities I deeply appreciate. I sense from the other reviews that some people might prefer ignorance with a smile? As to costs, Ive always found him to be utterly fair. Like if his prices ever seem high it is because he only stocks high quality parts. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on the kevlar tires he has, they are absolutely worth it, and something most lesser shops will make you special order.

I took my bike here to be cleaned and serviced. They called and said it was ready. I went in the next day and though he put new brake pads on it seems he did nothing else. The bike was just as dirty as when I dropped it off yet I paid for it to be cleaned ahead of time. So I mentioned this to the guy who then said I could wait 20 minutes or so and he would clean it. What a jerk. I didnt want to wait around for something that was already paid for and he was supposed to do. He is rude and cheated me.

Alex is a great bike mechanic and can fix and tweak your 6grand carbon race bik,e as well as your fifty bucks piece of junk, like no other in the neighbor. He has a great bike shop which looks and smells the way a bike store should look and smell. His prices are real and honest, and hes not willing to negotiate them - I guess this pisses off a of people paying 3 grand to rent a shoe box and looking to scrap a dollar here and there to buy lunch.

This guy is really gruff, no nonsense, and definitely knows what he is doing. If you simply want your bike fixed correctly by a competent mechanic, you shold look no further. If you are easily insulted, or have any kind of ego about your bike, watch out! He says whatever is on his mind and might even take a call on his bluetooth while he is talking to you. If you need your hand held, I wouldnt go there...He he...
