I live in Nevada City/Susanville -- in Nevada City they wanted close to $200 to tell me how much it would cost to fix my comptuer. AND I would lose all my data. THESE guys fixed it, didnt have time to completely clean it, gave me a discount, and I walked away with a screaming desk top for less than $50. since then Ive bought several flat screen monitors for my GPS and a lap top for my pick-up, a lap top that screams for my personal use, and a desk top that is near top of the current line -- with a 21 inch monitor - all computers still under Dell warranty and THEIR warranty -- they ONLY sell hardware, and they have only six flavors: low, medium, and high end desk top low, medium, and high end lap top small, medium and large flat screens. It helps if you know what you want when you go in, and youd be AMAZED at what $100 more will buy you. And they only sell hard ware, so dont go looking for software, it really isnt there. but if you want a second (or third) hard drive for an extra couple of bucks, or would like them to set up your comptuer with hot-swappable RAID-5 hard drives -- CHEAP -- these are your guys. I travel about 250 miles round trip to do business with these folks -- and dont let their store fool you - you wont find anything flashy or fancy -- Dells or Compaqs set up on a shelf, piles of boxes of computers or hard drives or CD/DVD/r+w just piled on the floor -- a box of extra cables of all kinds, disks and mice and keyboards piled in piles on the shelf -- remember you are just looking at the back room of the fancy pay twice as much place down the street -- only these guys work on their computers in the back and need a clean room somewhere. If I were in Nevada City and had to brave a snow storm and knew that the summit was chains mandatory on ALL vehicles -- would I go to pick up an extra hard drive? Without a thought -- even with gas over $4.40 a gallon and I was driving my Desert Truck, Id save money buying from them and, heck, they might even have a special to make room for a pallet of new computers and that 3 year old Dell top of the line lap-top is 50% off and if I buy it right now today just to get rid of it, theyll toss in a used battery (" watch it though, itll only hold an hour and a half charge any more.") -- you just never know when you want through their door what you will find -- maybe nothing much, maybe a deal like above -- you just cant never tell with these guys. Oh, and lose my data when they fixed my comptuer? ha! it was fine! -- but they did clean it up inside the box and the hard drive, probably reformatted it and dumped my data back on it - and it screamed like it was new. I just needed a super fast one for photo work, and a lap top for my GPS in my truck, and a lap-top for my photos so I could work in the field, and heck, a seperate screen and a mouse and keyboard since I hate the ones on the lap-top - like I say -- if you dont mind having to make up your mind yourself -- or have them tell you honestly what you need -- if you are typing word documents, you really will never out type ANY computer so why pay hundreds more for one, but if you are also going to be using it to edit photos AND muisic, AND play games AND write -- theyll tell you what you need, and even add more memory for you -- and yes, its used, just like the memory you are using now is used. I couldnt exist without these guys! And since I speak a LITTLE code and actually know what ASCII means and can make a DOS joke, we get along just fine -- mostly they just come out and watch you. But if you ask, some speak English better than others. However they DO all try to help! and have never sent me the wrong direction! and Im amazed that I always have money in my pocket when I leave. --pgalioni--

Lousy, awful garbage. Highly recommend you stay away from this place at all costs! The owner and half the employees are total jerks. One of the guys actually started yelling at me, and his head turned bright red-- I thought it might pop right off! I got a laptop from this place and within a few days noticed that it ran slow and frequently gave strange error messages. When I took it back in, all they had to say was that it ran fine and that since the errors were "not repeatable", that there was nothing they could do for me. They did exchange the unit for another of the same model. Well, guess what--- that one was even worse! Very unstable, runs slow and still tons of error messages! So i took that one back, hoping to get my money back and get a new laptop from a reliable source. Well...that didnt happen because even though I had the second unit for less than 5 days, they would not honor their own return policy, saying that since the original purchase was over seven days ago, it was past the return period. By the way, the return policy sucks because there is a 20% restocking fee which is totally unfair! Why should the customer have to pay them for using their junky products and wasting their time? Do yourself a favor and dont get screwed by these weenies, like I did.

As for the negative reviews.... even brain surgeons have bad days! We have been buying desk top and laptop computers from these guys for over 5 years... and are heading back again this week end ... weve had a house fire and lost everything.. need replacements... kids needed em for studies... weve needed em for travel... always fast service, super reasonable prices... never over sell or push what you do not need. They may not have gracious social skills or win personality contests. They may be having an off day like we all do on occasion... give them a break... they are what they are ... computer geeks... that is what they do. and that is what you want from them... They are not perfect.. only Jesus was... and the rest of us can only aspire to follow in Christs shoes.... however these gents at UCW are honest... fast... dependable and know computers!!!!!!!!!! Do not be scared off. They will provide you with what you want and need... and not stiff you! We have purchased 6 computers... and still keep coming back!!!

I agree, they might not win a congenial personality contest, but thats not what I go in for. I am not very computer savvy and they almost always solve my computer problems at very reasonable prices - even if they have to send me elsewhere armed with the knowledge needed to solve the problem. Sometimes, they take longer than desired to complete the project (up to a week or so), but this just supports the fact that they are excellent in what they do and are very busy.
