I have lived in Omaha my whole life and have never known about Backwoods until today. It seems that they are the only retailer in Omaha who carries chaco sandals in the winter. I went in thinking I knew what I wanted but through the careful help of associate Brian, I left much better prepared for my trip to Patagonia than I would have otherwise. Not only does everyone there KNOW their products, but they take the time to ask the RIGHT questions to make sure you invest in the PROPER equipment. The ability to ask the right questions comes from the employees having personal experience using the products/gear. I was also signed up for their rewards program that saved me some money right there on the spot. (Not a credit card) I was happy when I left but even more so when I got home and spent some quiet time analyzing the decision. (Its nice when it works out that way) Brian even delayed his departure for his Colorado trip to help me finish up. It takes a great experience for me to go out of my way to leave comments. 5 Stars well earned!

Backwoods was a pleasant surprise. I happened to be in Omaha and swung in on a whim, never hearing of them before. I was impressed with their content and quality products, along with their polite and very knowledgable service. I asked questions about some minute details as well as some more obscure products and they knew their stuff inside and out. Everything in their store is quality gear. Need an ENO hammock, Osprey pack, Icebreaker merino wool clothing, cooking stoves, camp chairs, none of it was poor quality knock off brands and all of it was tempting to buy haha. I dont even live in Omaha but I have to go back for a few more VA appts and I will most definitely be going back in each time just because they are an awesome business, with friendly staff who know their stuff well and they seem to have a lot of local community events and outings. I cant recommend this business enough and intend to go spend more of my hard earned money there because they have the quality gear I need, which is hard to find in the Midwest, and they deserve the business.

I am going on a week long bike camping tour later this summer and needed some help finding what I needed. They exceeded my expectations with the wealth of knowledge they were able to give me. I learned a lot and I will confidently say that I will go back there again.

While this isnt nearly as large as an REI, its definitely better for outdoor recreation than Bass Pro or Cabellas which focus on hunting and carry sub par camping or adventure gear. What Backwoods carries is of good quality and the staff are pretty helpful.

Dont walk in with tattoos and a wide shoulder tank top. Im clean cut and pretty well off. I walked in about 15 feet behind someone. That person was greeted, I was not. The "greeter" even looked me in the eye and decided not to say anything.

They were great! Very knowledgeable! Not as wide a selection as some other places but more narrowed-down to solid product lines.
