Went with my son to buy his first late model car. It was a great experience and he has a car he can afford that fits his needs. They made it a great experience. Salesman was a recent retiree who really enjoyed his second career at CarMax. He did a great job getting us through the paperwork and getting the deal done. No problems in the six months he has had the car. A few months later my wifes dream car popped up as a CarMax notice. We were at the dealership an hour later. We test drove it a couple of times over the course of a week and ended up buying it. This salesman was also a recent retiree who really liked his new job. I recall he struggled with the computer quite a bit and we had to go through the whole process a second time due to his typing mistakes which made it a very long experience. What impressed me was that a headlamp went out in my wifes car a few weeks later. I called to see if light bulbs were covered under the extended warranty. They were not. It was no big deal since I can handle this myself and bulbs are just one of those things. However, after we hung up, the service manager looked up my purchase by checking Caller ID. She called me back to say it was covered under the 60 day warranty and got me in a few days later. That attention to detail and putting in the extra effort does not happen everywhere.

We recently lost both our cars to a garage fire. I had spent a week looking online for cars. I decided that the Chrysler 200 series was what I was interested in. CarMax plus several other metro dealers had about a dozen in the inventory. I have had many bad experiences with the local dealers in the past. I first visited the Brooklyn Park store. The rep listened to what I was looking for. Pointed me in the right direction. it was very easy because of the lay out in the lot. SUVS are all together, all four and two door sedans are all together so you not walking the whole lot to look at used vehicles. The one I wanted was at the Maplewood store. I test drove it. Fell in love with it right away. I was not expecting my insurance check for about another week or two they let me put a hold on it without an deposit. I finally received my check 3 weeks later and I was still able to purchase the vehicle. The Staff was great. everything was done very professional. The car was in excellent shape. I did not purchase the warranty. The vehicle still had about 20k on the factory warranty. It did have a safety recall and CarMax did disclose this. Overall very satisfied.

I just bought my first new car from CarMax and I love it! My experience was fabulous! I went to another dealership before coming to CarMax and I disliked how pushy they were. At CarMax I loved how friendly thy were the moment I walked in the door. I had a specific type of car I was interested in but I also wanted to look at other cars. The woman at the welcome desk explained to me how the lot was arranged and directed me to the cars I wanted to look at. All the sales associates were busy with customers at the time, so she took down my number and said as soon as one was available, they would give me a call and meet me out on the lot. I love that all the cars are unlocked and that you can look around by yourself without any pressure of buying a car. For someone like me who is new to car buying it made it a lot less stressful and allowed me to look at my own pace. I came back on a separate day to test drive and my sales associate was very helpful and super friendly. Once I decided on a car he took excellent care of me and made the entire process so easy! I highly recommend checking them out!

I have always hated the car buying experience- the negotiating and bullying I have witnessed over the many years leaves me terrified. A friend told me about Carmax and also said he would go with me. It was the best experience I have ever had buying a car. The folks were kind, friendly, patient and honest. There was no back room negotiations- no high pressure drama. It seemed to good to be true- I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop! The only drama created was by me when I saw my car ready for pick up and it was so shiny and pretty and wrapped up with a huge yellow ribbon. I thought i had died and gone to The Ellen DeGeneres show!!!! It felt like a gift........... It was the best thing I have done for myself. It is like the gift that keeps on giving. I would recommend Carmax to anyone.......... and especially if you have been apprehensive with past experiences. Oh yeah, one more thing - if you go to the Maplewood store ask for Abiola- hell do you right!

This review is in 2 parts. First off, the buying experience was good. Found what we needed, good, low pressure sales from the guy we had. Got an extended warranty just in case. Second, the reason for the 1 star. After 1 year, the transmission has been acting funny so we brought it in to utilize the warranty. They couldnt find the problem. Just my luck. So i sent my wife down to pick up the car. While it was there they found a screw in my tire that had been causing a slow leak for some time. $47.60 to patch a tire. Yes $47.60. A job that is $20 anywhere else. Absolute robbery. I called to check on the price and they where no help at all. I will never be bringing my vehicle back to them again with warranty issues and will happily pay a higher deductible to take it to another shop.

So, this is a great and convenient place, with one caveat. It is excellent for figuring out what type of car you want. The have a huge gated lot, with all of their cars unlocked. You can open any door and sit in any car. Want to see the difference between a BMW SUV and a Prius? Easy to do here. If youre not sure about what make/model of car you want, this is a great place to figure it out. However, if you want to actually buy the car, I would go somewhere else. Talk to the actual car dealer, find a car on craigslist, try somewhere else: These cars seemed over priced, and since theyre unlocked 24/7, they kinda dont seem super clean on the inside... Go somewhere else to get the car, but look at them here. Thats my recommendation.

I called the dealership about a specific car. I was told to schedule a test drive which I did for that day. When I arrived at the SCHEDULED time for my test drive, I was asked to wait. After 10 minutes or so, the salesman who I spoke on the phone to schedule the test drive informed me the car is being serviced right now. Seriously. I called and made an appointment to test drive a specific car and its not available. Dont you think thats something that should have been checked on before I drove 30 minutes. Then the salesman tells me he will call me back next week as soon as the car is ready. Never got a call back and I see the car is still listed for sale on there website. Complete fail.
