I am rather confused by the surge of positive reviews about Pioneer Cycle. A few years back I felt I was ripped off by Pioneer Cycle, and at that time the reviews posted here reflected the communitys frustration with this establishment. Many people had stories of how products were misrepresented, about being flat out insulted by the owner, and warranties not honored. So at that time I figured that folks had been sufficiently warned to not do business at Pioneer Cycle (1-2 stars) and I let it be. But now? Many of those reviews have been removed and many more positive reviews had been added. What does this mean? Not sure... but I figured I should post my story now as a warning to my fellow cycling enthusiasts. My story? I brought in my trusty Trek 4300 MTB/commuter for a loose and noisy crankset (turned out to be a bottom bracket). After a quick assessment, the owner told me the whole bicycle was "junk" and would cost $300 to fix and I would be better off buying a whole new bike. I was shown a "comparable" bicycle ($300) and in my haste from feeling frustrated I decided to just buy it (my mistake). And since I was told my bike was JUNK... they offered to keep it and "recycle" it, so I GAVE THEM MY OLD BIKE (so stupid). So this "new" bike was awful and never felt right. I ended up trading it on Craigslist for another Trek similar to my old one. Months later, after some heavy commuting, this new Trek started having the same loose crankset problems, but I took it to a different shop. It was the exact same repair that my FIRST bike needed (worn bottom bracket). But curiously the repair was only $40 (not $300 like Pioneer Cycle had told me). At this point I realized I gave Pioneer Cycle a FREE bicycle! So I figured that they duped me into buying a bicycle I didnt really need, and sold my old bicycle for a huge profit. I lost a few hundred dollars in those transactions, so I thought a negative review was warranted. My advice? Avoid Pioneer Cycle! There are MANY better options in the area that are FAR more trustworthy. I have my favorite shop now, but Id even recommend one of the Twin Cities "big box" bicycle shops over Pioneer Cycle every time.

not very good service. theres a reason their tune-ups are $40 where as everywhere else charges $60 or more. Minimal work. picked it up and rode it the next day for 5 miles or so and the chain was rubbing and the front brake wasnt working right. could tell they didnt even touch the front shifters as they were filthy when i dropped off and just as dirty when i picked up.. not even a a smudge in the dirt. had to take it back the next day and have them re-tune it up and fix the issues from the first tune-up. Youd think theyd test it before they called and said it was done... i guess not. They were nice about it but i shouldnt have to bring it in 2 times for simple adjustments. They put armor all type stuff all over bike to make it look clean. you could tell they banged it out and did the bare minimum. staff was crazy and didnt seem very focused on each customer.. more of a get em in and get em out type of place. will probably not go back

My husband and just bought two bikes from Pioneer Cycle. We had been looking seriously for replacement bikes for the past 1-1/2 months. We visited several bike shops but kept coming back to the folks at Pioneer because we’ve have a positive experience with them in the past when we purchased a bike for our daughter. We also went there several times for routine maintenance. Our recent purchase was also positive. Over the course of weeks, we tried a number of bikes and sizes. Each person who worked with us was informative, helpful, and yet low pressure. They genuinely seemed to care that we get the right bike—style, fit and price. We ended up purchasing two Giant Sedonas and are very satisfied. We would highly recommend Pioneer Cycle (and we love our bikes)!

Ive gone to Pioneer out of necessity numerous times over the years...usually with great regret. The original owner was a windbag that knew absolutely nothing about bikes other then what he had read and the current owners (the son and grandson?) know little more then their predecessor. In fact, that majority of their employees know squat about bikes or even care about bikes, with a few exceptions. There is a tall crazy guy, with tattoos, there that is knowledgeable about mountain bikes and short mechanic that seems to know pretty much everything there is to know about bikes and racing...he even got my two kids to try BMX racing. Im not sure why those guys dont own the shop? They are the only reason I am giving the shop more then one star.

I recently bought a Felt F1X here and was very satisfied with the service i was given. They helped me get the best deal around town and explained to me the service I get with the bike. They offer FREE brake and shifting adjustments for the life of the bike! I have never seen that kind of service from any other shop around. The employees were great in telling me what I needed in a bike and the owners were great in telling me how and when I should have the bike serviced. The only complaint I can think of is the occasional lack of product. Sometimes when I come in there the bikes left in stock dont seem to fit my geometry but they are great in showing me what size I need and what models are available to order.

My family and I have been customers of Pioneer Cycle for 15 years. We have purchased several bikes and various accessories. The consistency of high-level customer service and overall care has been unparalleled. We have referred family/friends who have all come away with positive experiences. Heres an example of how this team went above and beyond - I had the unfortunate experience of having one of my road bikes stolen. It was purchased in 2008 and I did not keep the receipt. They went into their cold storage unit to dig out a paper invoice so I could make a police report and valid claim on my insurance. Its refreshing to fully trust where youre doing business.

This place is only about 5 minutes from our house so we came here by default to have our family bikes tuned. Im glad we were "forced" to come here because the 3 times weve had to have them tune and fix our bikes, its been great. The staff is pretty friendly and they seem to know their stuff. Their prices are pretty fair too. Youll pay $40 - $80 for a full bike tune. $20 for a flat tire fix. They are also pretty fast at getting your bike done. Every time I have gone in they have over delivered on when they said the bike would be done which has always been a nice surprise. Keep up the good work guys!

Surprised to find when getting my directions to Pioneer all these odd reviews. This is the 4th bike I will be trading up for my son. I have always had good Haro bikes, free recycling, free tune ups and even told when I could get the product from another store when the price benefited me. My son rides his bikes hard at the skateboard parks. I even had a fitting for a bike for myself for after my knee surgery. Maybe its the stress of this economy on the small business that makes everyone touchy, and feeling a bit unappreciative. Hang in there Pioneer c u soon!
