A friend and I recently visited this Micheals location and had what might have been the worst experience I have ever had in a store. We called and asked if this location allowed dogs (not service dogs) inside. The girl on the phone said yes. Five minutes later we walk in with one of our (very well behaved) dogs with us. We hadnt even been in the store for more then two minutes and where browsing the Christmas ornaments located pretty close to the front when a worker from a good 40ft away looks at us and yells "IS THAT A SERVICE DOG?" We both looked at him like deer in headlights because first off we had just called and ask if dogs could come in and had been told yes and secondly who yells that!!! So as we are both standing there kinda in shock he yells again "IS THAT A SERVICE DOG?" fastly walking towards us. We respond no and he tells us "only service dogs are around inside" we both just put down what we had and walked out embarrassed trying not to cause any more of a scene then he already had. I have worked in customer service before and I understand the holiday season in retail could put anyone in a bad mood and would normally shake off any rudeness I experienced during this time of year but this was an apauling experience. I understand only service dogs are allowed in that location (even though we had been told different on the phone) and that is not my issue at all. My issue is what if my friend or I did have a disability and had a service dog with us? Is that how we would be treated by micheals staff? By being questioned about a service animal from over 40ft away, causing everyone in that area of the store to stop and stare at us. The way this was handled was incredibly inappropriate and I feel bad for anyone that walks in there with a service dog (not vested, which legally you do not need your service animal to wear a vest) and might run into this man.
