Four stars....heres why. The people who work there makes it a 4. Otherwise Im thinking 2. The store is a bit confusing at times. I know Im getting bold but its a bit of a maze. First, why was I there...needed electrical supplies and some drywall. Electrical department is big.... maybe too big. However, asked a woman for directions and unlike most retail peeps do....I didnt get the "vauge finger point and crappy directions". She left her station and brought me to the right spot and pointed out various items.... awesome. Then I searched for the drywall.....spoke to another employee. Nice kid, polite and helpful. BUT.. no fault to him...the drywall is outside. I h-a-t-e going into the outside lumber area. First you pull up to the gaurd shack and you get the feeling your driving in Russia and you run into a checkpoint. Then you have to find what you need and then stop again for the inspection. Anywho, been there done that. Sorry Menards....going to HD for the drywall. Went to check out and the cashier was very nice. Hey...11% off! Da da da Dum....you have to go to customer service get the correct form and mail it in. I always forget....thats the plan....most people do. This is the master plan and why they just dont give you a 11% discount. I really like Menards...the employees are awesome. The store layout is overwhelming and the Stalingrad Checkpoint is not my fav. Overall.. the people and the attitude is most important. A+ for that "M"! Take it easy folks
Omg, they seriously need to properly train their cashiers. I love Menards, but yesterday they lost a sale. I go to check out, told the girl I have $35 on my card, I will pay the difference in cash. Now, she saw me call b4 I even placed items on belt to check my balance. I even told her such. So again, tell her I have the $35 on card. Total comes to $36.14. I had plants, soil.. It rings up insuffienct funds. Of course it will! She says, oh Im sorry my fault. As this is going on a line forms. She rings up again, same thing. Now Im getting annoyed. She then changes her tune, gets a little snotty. Im like get someone ekse over here. Same thing with him. He looked tired, hot, and annoyed. Guess what, its your job. Im the customer. The people in line were even nice about it, I told cashier just take them, Ill wait. People were like, no its fine. I was embarassed. I had to walk out with nothing because not 1 but 2 employees dont know how to use register. They even couldve suggested I pay seperately for one plant, but didnt. Next time, I will suggest it myself. Ive never had this problem at any other store. If you say, I have this on my card, pay rest with cash, what is the problem? So disappointed.
Menards - This visit was very frustrating because the Cedar Lumber I went there to buy was low on stock count, remaining lumber was defective and not usable. I had to get a refund back to my debit card and I have to look at other stores now for the quantities I need. I had looked online at the Menards Crystal Lake store to make sure that they had stock on hand prior to going to the store. Frustrating because I typically shop Menards and I need the lumber to complete a project. this will also complicate the 11% rebate process.
Spent more than I planned on but they always have everything I need and stuff I dont need. The only negative that needs immediate attention are the cashiers. Why cant they assist with bagging? The woman in front was riding on a cart carrying a cane and was having difficulty getting into her purse. Rather than bag her purchase the cashier just tapped his finger. I bagged her purchase and then when she finally got her card he pointed to the card reader. Why not offer "customer service"? Very disappointed with this cashier.
The 3 times I have been to this store they have been out of stock on the different items I am looking for. The last time I went there I asked if they had more in back and was told "what you see is what we have. You can try a different location." When I asked him to check other stores he told me that "inventory is never correct so it is best I try another store."
Ive always liked Menards over the home centers because they seem to carry EVERYTHING! If not the exact thing, they come close or know how to get it. Unfortunately its not the closest to my house so when I have the chance I take the opportunity. This location is quite large and everything from soup to nuts (literally) is under one roof.
We like the store and prices are good. Ever since they changed the check out lanes I find it extremely unfriendly. Looking at the back of a cashiers is unfriendly to the customers. I rather shop at their competitors just to avoid their unfriendly register set up even though the cashiers are OK.

The return desk people are very unhelpful here. They dont understand their receipts system online. They just dont even try to point you in the direction that your receipts might be online. The attitude I got when I finally got a hint that the receipts are online was unpleasant too.
Always out of products in electrical. I cant tell you the last time I was here and they actually had dimmers and plate covers in stock. Ill stick with Home Depot across the street.
Menards is always the place for us to get tools or lawn and garden supplies. The people there actually know where things are so you dont have to wander around aimless.
Weve always been happy with the Menards here in Crystal lake. Great selection and very helpful staff allows us to get in and out of there pretty quickly.
Staff is great, top notch. I shop here a lot. Sometimes out of sale items. Good service when ordering special items, and deliveries are timely.
Better prices and better selection than home depot or Lowes. Power tool selection is the ONLY thing it gets beat at...But still decent.
It is a great store, But has to be the most Non contractor friendly of them all. From one end to the other, poor design in my opinion.
WHY has portillos changed their chili recipe? Bring back the original. The new chili is ruining the chili dogs.

Never had any problems, staff very helpful and friendly. Prices are good and everything easy to find.
This place seems to have everything youre looking for, and better stocked than neighboring stores.
By far THE BEST MENARDS AROUND!. EMPLOYEES ARE FRIENDLY AND MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE THAN ANY OTHER !
Its can be a challenge to find someone with some experience.Have a budget in place too.
