I would like to start by saying that I LOVE Target. I loved Target for years until they did away with separate gender sections, and then I loved it more. Then they took a stand for breastfeeding mothers and, yet again, I loved Target even more. If I needed anything that could be found at Target, that was where I got it. I chose consistently to give my money to a company I believed in. My purse and car were almost always littered with Target receipts and my daughters best friend was Spot. Now for the relevant information: Last weekend (June 17th) my husband, daughter and I went to Target (Arvada-South location) to get a couple of groceries and return a George Foreman grill. Living with a toddler can get chaotic. As hard as I try to keep all of my receipts organized in one place, that does not always happen. Considering that we shop at Target on a near-daily basis, I figured I would just do the store credit for the return rather than spend the time digging through the car and my purse in search of the receipt. Kacy at the customer service desk stated that a return without the receipt would not work due to the value of the grill ($64.09). She rudely asked for my ID and huffed that she would try. I assumed her attitude was due to some other aspect of her day and politely obliged. She rolled her eyes and mumbled under her breath, "out of state, of course" and then informed me that I could not return the item. I said "no problem, thank you" and went to join my husband and daughter to shop a bit. When we finished our shopping, my husband returned the shopping cart and took our daughter to the car while I paid for our 3 items. When I got to the car, he insisted that we find the receipt and return the indoor grill while we were there. We found the receipt and he went inside to return the grill while I waited in the car with our daughter. When we got home he informed me of the reason he had insisted we complete the return. As he was leaving while I was checking out, he walked past Kacy speaking with another employee. She said very loudly to the other woman, "I wish we could cut the hands off of people who steal so that we know they are thieves right away". She was looking directly at my husband and daughter as she said this, in what seemed to be an obvious attempt at shaming him for being a "thief" (or at least being with one). He was understandably very upset by this accusation and that is why he insisted that we return the item right then. This is my husbands account of the experience that followed: "Immediately when I walked through the door, Kacy said loudly, "You cannot return that, you need to leave". I informed her that I had my receipt to which she responded, "I will have to call loss prevention, wait here". Loss prevention arrived and asked what the issue was. Kacy claimed that my wife had already tried to return the merchandise with no receipt and no identification (this was a blatant lie as she had provided her drivers license when she initially tried to return it). Loss prevention checked the receipt and the item and issued my refund stating that they didnt see a problem." At no point did Kacy or any other Target associate apologize for the way that my family was demeaned and humiliated. I have not been back to Target since (so many wasted Cartwheel deals!).

One star is two too many for this location. We are new to area and my wife, daughter and I frequented this location nearly daily as it is within walking distance of the place we are renting. We originally were pleasantly surprised at how much empty the store was every time we went in, considering where we come from, Target is always very busy. However, my wife and I attempted to return an item without a receipt and we quickly realized why the place is always empty. We were treated with an extreme amount of disrespect by Kacy and the customer service staff. She told my wife that it was against store policy to return an item of this value(60$) without a receipt and that our out of state ID was worthless to her. We understood, however, she went about it in such a way that she seemed very condescending. We chalked it up to Kacy having a bad day or life and went about shopping. To be honest, we didnt even look for the receipt because we figured a gift card would be issued and we shop at Target for everything. Upon checking out, Kacy was now manning the self checkout and while we were ringing up our 3 items she casually started talking to a coworker about how shoplifters should have their fingers cut off while glaring at my wife and I. After treating us like criminals at the customer service desk and then blatantly referring to us with her recent comments, I was irate and went to the car with my daughter to look for the receipt so I could return the item and speak to management. When I found the receipt 10mins later(cars can get messy with a toddler) and brought the item back in with it, I was told You cant return it it and to wait for loss prevention immediately when I came through the doors. She made sure every customer left in the store knew she was calling loss prevention on me. Loss prevention came and she explained what transpired and loss prevention couldnt understand why they were even called and the item had not been returned already. While loss prevention and management did return the item, there was no apology given to me, my wife or my 2 year old daughter even after I told management Kacy had been disrespectful and purposely went out of her way to harass my wife and I. Thanks Kacy, for making everyone who returns an item, feel like a shoplifter. You earned your 11$ per hour. If I do ever go to this location again, it will only be to talk to a different manager about that unbelievably disrespectful visit

Overall have always had good Target experiences until now. However, bear in mind this rating is solely for the with electronics department. I visited the store today to purchase a new new phone. I simply wanted to pay the balance on my existing phone and replace with the new phone for a monthly payment. I made this clear from the first explanation. The young representative was completely inadequate in such a skilled position and did not know basic communication. She just knew what buttons to push on the screen and could not walk me through the process. She had to call a couple times for help as she did not understand. The process took 45 minutes only for her to ask me to go up to the register to pay for the new phone. Remember....I wanted to pay of the balance on the existing phone. This is when she finally tells me she can not pay off the existing phone. She could have very easily told me in the first minute we began talking that she could not do that and I would have been fine. She did not listen to the root issue. She also kept looking at her cell phone while helping me which was a bit distracting and unprofessional.

I would never recomend doing a gift registry at Target. They will only allow you two returns per year without a reciept. If you have ever had a shower you would know that you get a lot of double gifts and need to return more than two things; and not to mention most people forget to give you the gift reciept. I was always given a hard time and would have to spend up to a half an hour at the customer service counter trying to exchange things. What do they expect me to do with three of the same baby mobile? On another occasion I went to the food center and bought my son and I a personal pizza. The pizzas were still raw in the middle and I was told I had to take the pizzas and my reciept that the lady behind the counter dug out of the trash to the service counter to get my money back! I should have turned them in to the health department. Target, not worth wasting my time on.
