My experience at the Stag Tobacconist was great! They have a gem of a store here in the Springs! There are two great places to smoke at the store (a nice deck by the door and a cozy den inside the store to the left). When you walk in the front door the first thing you will notice is the displays of cutters, lighters, and various other accessories. To the left is a large pipe section. There is a display with very nice (and top dollar) pipes along with a display of intermediate to beginner pipes. Behind where the pipe display is, there is a large room full of different pipe tobaccos. On the right side of the store is a huge cigar humidor. They have many of the top brands there. If you want it, theres a good chance they have it! For shaving enthusiasts, they have a nice selection of razors, brushes, and bowls. Once you make your selection, you will see their impulse buy sections along with small accessories. The staff there were extremely nice and helpful, plus they were more than happy to take their time and explain anything I needed help with. There was a man in the pipe humidor who was busy filling jars of tobacco, who dropped what he was doing to show me where a few things were. The lady at the counter was also extremely friendly. She went out of her way to make sure I had everything I would need for my first pipe smoking experience. The last person I encountered was a older man who explained everything I would need to do in order to enjoy pipe smoking. Sure the staff used some language, as other reviews have mentioned, however everyone there is an adult. Get over it, Im sure its not the first (or last) time youll hear them. I will definitely be back!

I cant believe I forgot to do this. I used to come in here every so often to buy the hard to find djarum cigars. I then got married and came in with my wife. The managers were all still fine but we found it intollerable just the same. All conversation ceased and I was shocked to find a barricade of malice had been raised towards my wife by the customers. They just glared at her the whole time not even bothering to smoke their lit cigars while we we were in there hoping she would leave not talking waiting for the interloper to get out. It was like a blast from the 1920s... Ive never seen such a wide range of ages (18 or so to about 80) stop what they were doing to be a total douchebag to someone theyve never met before. The only reason they get a second star is from the managers of the shop being knowledgeable and willing to help and their truly massive selection. If youre a guy Im certain there wont be any problems. I sincerely doubt its the owners cultivating this but its the entire experience that counts and it fell very short. This was over a year ago so it may have changed but there are other ways to get our tobacco needs so we wont be back sadly. Like I said, I did like this place as its the only place in town I could find Spice Island unfiltered but I cant accept that kind of atmosphere for my wife. I have never met someone that does this to women that realizes they do it (if i had I may have punched them for knowingly being such an asshat) so I doubt this will change anything but its the only way I have to express it so here it is.

The Stag Tobacconist is an absolutely fantastic, atmospheric location to go when youre in the mood for an exceptional smoking experience. You can go in, sample, select, browse, relax, smoke (of course) and I would quickly call it the best in Colorado. Im a pipe smoker only and have yet to be disappointed in any purchase I have made. The only reason I cannot provide a 5 star rating is because I am a young pipe enthusiast at the age of 20, and I have made The Stag a destination since I turned 18. Because of my young age and appearance, I believe I am often profiled, looked down upon and even at times I do not feel "welcomed" there. They also are very annoying when it comes to pushing sales. This has slightly annoyed me until my last visit. I was greeted and helped by an older gentleman who new an abundance of things about his pipes and tobacco. He recommended a tobacco that is now one of my favorite English blends, and he provided some of the best customer service Ive ever had. Because of my experiences in the past, and this new experience, I will only visit on Wednesdays or Fridays. Thank you, Stag, for providing the excellent products and great atmosphere. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys pipes or cigars.

Fantastic, knowledgeable staff, incredibly helpful and not out to acquire your wallet. Excellent selection of cigars, humidors and accessories. As a novice I had to go in a couple of times for expert assistance in the setup and maintenance of my humidor. The lady and gentlemen there went above and beyond to DIY some solutions to counteract my items shoddy craftsmanship, another lesson to buy your humidor from the experts and not off the internet. After being personally shown around the selection of cigar brands we were after, and told in detail the profile and history of each type available, we found a selection of empty cigar boxes leftover after sales. The business offers these cigar boxes for consumers to take home, provided you contribute a donation to the Cigars for Warriors jar. The money collected in this jar pays for Stag to send cigars to troops overseas, on which my husband realized he had been one of the beneficiaries of this generosity while on deployment himself. We happily left our donation, and cant wait to come back and buy even more cigars for our collection. If anything, just drop in to meet the resident Cigar Madame, shes stunning and a pleasure to talk to.

1 star for the following reasons: Worst experience ever! The store said they have to ID everyone because of new FDA rules. I looked it up and nowhere in the new FDA rules mention carding everyone, including me a 71 year old grandmother. The store owner lied to me; their signs blame the FDA for their own house rules; and instruct the customer to write their local congressman. FYI...I was an attorney for over 40 years, and I believe this could potentially be illegal making false claims against the FDA. Now, the selection was huge but an owner named Tom was very rude and disrespectful towards me and he was rude to his employee. The poor lounge was extremely neglected, holes in all the seats, and all ashtrays were full. I also had the misfortune of using the powder room, which had urine on the floor and disgusting stains on the wall. Needless to say I will never return!

I did not see the pictures of the inside of the shop before I went to the store location. While google street view or outside appearance may not look stunning the staff and the humidor are friendly and diverse. I was greeted by an employee who asked me if I had been there before, after saying it was my first time in that store he gave me a full tour of the store. I asked for an employees opinion for a cigar and unlike most stores who point you to the years top cigars or the most expensive he pointed me to many that I would have overlooked but are some of the better cigars I have had. I think by doing that he showed his true knowledge of cigars and honesty that he could care less if I buy a $5 or a $25 cigar. If you are in the Colorado Springs area and like cigars or pipe tobacco do not pass up this store.
