Took my bike in for new brake pads and grip tape, and requested the front and rear derailers be adjusted. I was under the impression when I purchased the bike from them in 1997 that adjustments on the bike were free for the life of the bike. I received the quote and saw that I was going to be charged for the derailer adjustment, and told the service guy not to adjust the derailers, I would do that on my own. He stated that the adjustments for the life of the bike only covered "simple adjustments", and that adjusting derailers was not a simple adjustment. It is two small screws for crying out loud!!! How much more simple can that get??? When I went to pick the bike up two days later, the derailers were adjusted, and I was charged for the derailers being adjusted, after I had said not to adjust them! I tried to explain the situation to the lady at the register and she stated to me that their repairs were guaranteed for a certain amount of time. The service guy I had worked with was not in site, so rather than cause a big fuss, I paid the $86.00, saddled up, and rode off into the sunset with the satisfaction of knowing they lost this customer. I was about to spend $1700 to $2100 for a new bike, and was ready to purchase one from them, but will drive the extra distance to another dealer that honors their policies a little better. Update: 1 Sept 09 As a result of this review, the owner of CSBS has contacted me by telephone(Left a message, I was out ) and offered to discuss the poor customer service I received. I have not had the opportunity to take him up on his offer as yet. I am increasing the star rating from one to two.

I am a leisure cyclist. My service with them started after calling them about a schwinn le tour III from the 70s that appeared to be in rough shape that I bought on craigslist. After an over the phone estimate I brought it in and was greeted with good advise and a willingness to figure out what was needed to be done and what could be done for much more. One thing I noticed was they want to sell you on tune up services for 80 bucks. I was not Interested as Im a motorcycle and car mechanic but had no idea how to straighten a bicycle rim, nor did I feel like installing tubes and tires. I understand why they do this though. Shops gotta make Money somehow so its ok. I gave them 87 for tubes tires and straightened rim. Timely service was impeccable! I asked if they could get it done that day and they seemed hesitant but assured me anyway it would get done. I felt so bad when I couldnt pick it up later that day and still not for another 3 days but regardless was very much appreciated and shows they care about customer service. People may say their prices and service are high but were not shopping at Wal-Mart folks so get over it. It also appears this shop is not for pro cyclists looking for spending thousands on the best of the best. But some of these old fashioned cruiser bikes and whatnot are still fairly expensive. And!!!.....you can buy all the parts there.for a custome bike!! All in all they have my business for parts, services out of my expertise and a new bike when my wife is Rdy, shop locally!!

I recently became serious about cycling, to the point of selling the car and relying on cycling as exclusive transportation. My vigor for the sport overwhelmed my lack of bicycle technical acuity, and being due for a tune up and new gear before I knew it, I took a step into Colorado Springs Bike Shop. I had two bicycles tuned up for $59 each with a military discount, ready the next day. I also inquired about night lights and optics, chamois, and mounted streaming video, and had every single probing question answered to the point of complete satisfaction. The inquired about objects were purchased and installed for free during the tune up. Additionally and much to my delight, Bonnie offered me a cup of coffee every time I walked in, and all the staff remembered my name after one encounter and made me feel welcome immediately upon my return. Over-all, a very pleasant experience. I hope to see the store busier in the future, as it was morbidly slow. Dont let the cold deter you from riding, and please, watch out for us on the road!

I have been going to The Colorado Springs Bike Shop for the past 26 years. For a period of time I tried the Old Town Bike Shop but didnt find their staff to be all that friendly, and they would often times walk right past me as if I wasnt there; plus their prices were on the high side. The owners Ed and Bonnie at CSBS have always made me feel welcome. Its great fun to walk around their incredible 2 level facility and see their huge inventory. I have never had any bad experiences concerning purchasing their bikes or with the service department. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a bike, tune up, some type of repair or in need of equipment and apparel. Being located on West Colorado Avenue is really convenient and only 2 blocks north of the Midland Trail. As a bikeaholic riding for over 42 years no matter what the conditions, I highly recommend this great bike shop.

Ed and Bonnie, the owners of the CSBS, have always gone out of their way to help my wife and I as we dont own a car!! Theyve been extremely pacient as weve changed to different "styles" of bikes over the years and even treated us well when we bought, "recumbent" style bikes, that they dont normally stock. They are a FAMILY shop not a pro boutique shop and thats what we need as we use our bikes for utility/commuting/recreation and lite touring. No matter the challenge the Colorado Springs Bike Shop, has always exceded our expectations. Weve been doing business with them since 2005 and will continue. If you want service with a smile and shop that feels like family, shop, buy and ENJOY the CSBS! :)

I am a huge supporter of local bike shops but I cannot recommend this one. We bought a bike as a surprise gift for our son. We werent sure about the size and explained the situation to the people we worked with. When we were able to size the bike up to our son we discovered the bike was far too big and there were no other options available through this shop. They were unwilling to let us return the bike. A local bike shop is supposed to be an alternative to the online mega shops where you can get service and personal attention. You wont find that at Colorado Springs Bike Shop. Weve done a lot of business through Old Town Bike Shop just down the road and are much happier there.

Randomly went to look at their website when I came across the most recent review. I have noooo idea what these people are talking about. Im an avid cyclist and moved to Colorado about 3 years ago. I visited a few bike shops trying to find the one that I was going to be giving my business to. As soon as I went in the first time I was greeted by Ed (the owner) with a warm smile and a hello. Since then it has been the only place I have gone for tires, tubes, tune-ups or even just a quick stop mid-ride for coffee. They remember me each time I go in and treat me like I have been going there for 40 years. If you are looking for anything bicycle related I highly recommend them. John H.
