I loved this compelling and gorgeously written book by Professor of Journalism Burt Dragin. While trying to find this book, I was led to gambling book websites that are more about your chances of winning, should you decide to play. One book is about Jerry Yang, who survived the killing fields of Southeast Asia and Thai refugee camps and went on to ESPNs World Series of Poker. Dragins family survived Russian pogroms and Ellis Island to pursue, like Yang, the "not so kosher American dream." His father was impressed by tough Jews who survived the war— from the bling and glamour of Samuel Goldwyns Hollywood to Mickey Cohens Las Vegas. But these "tough Jews" who gave the illusion of strength had gambled with nothing to lose. Dragins father straddled the dangerously seismic ground of both. Dragin examines his own life as he battled the disease he inherited from his father. "The pattern of my father answering the how rather than thewhy of his own gambling never ceased. Yet I could not condemn him for his destructive habit, for gambling—the psychological need for suffusing oneself in risk—would course through my blood, too." From historical accounts, great literature and personal testimonies much like the AA book, Dragin confronts the destructive forces behind compulsive gambling. One reader compares Dostoevsky, and I agree. If any writer comes as close to describing the intense feelings of anticipation and dread, excitement and disappointment, delicious victories of full pockets and devastating shame of losing everything, I want to read it. If his objective was to purge himself of his disease through exhaustive research, compassion and forgiveness, I hope he has accomplished this, because this book has helped me with my own addictions and family scrutiny. It also teaches that we can best forgive our weaknesses if we recognize them, confront them honestly, and write.

I went to this B&N a few days ago with one of my special needs students. My student (age 20) was walking around and one of the staff came up to him and said, "Is there something wrong? Can I help you? Some customers have been complaining about you." I then interjected and said, "Is there something wrong? Hes with me." The employee then said that they had received complaints about my student (who, by the way, wouldnt harm a FLY is and very well behaved). I said, "We were just leaving. Thank you." I was VERY disappointed with this Barnes and Noble. I have come here on numerous occasions with my Special Ed students and each time the workers make us feel unwelcome. We all feel as though we are being watched around the store. Do NOT support this store.

This Barnes & Noble has been a staple of my Bay Street shopping sprees for years. They have all your standard selections, though they often change up their organization in the store. Their employees are friendly and helpful, and they have a good number of seats available for in-store perusals of material. You can get parking validation for any purchase made either in the cafe or at the store front. Note that B&N cafes do not accept Starbucks cards, yet. : Lastly, they often do purges of their stock with red Clearance boxes on the second floor! Ive gotten some nice goodies here, so its often worth checking out.

Bookstore 5 stars The cafe negative stars. I waited in line with one person in front of me (who had never ordered a coffee before) and waited patiently. No big deal - Ive got an hour til my movie starts. So the women in front of me finish up and move to the side. I walk up to the register and the barista says her shift is over and walks away. Lame. I wait. And wait. And another customer walks up to the other register. We together waited. And waited. A woman shows up and helps the other customer. No questions of who was next. Just doesnt even care. No one at this place seems to care.

Ive called twice, asking if they had, or would soon receive, the printing I wished to purchase of a certain book. Both times, rather than research and then answer my question, they simply left me on hold. During one hold session, I actually managed to hang in there for 12 minutes. This was their rude method for avoiding having to deal with my query.

I called them and had to listen to an ad for at least 30 seconds for some childrens event, which is wasted on me at the minute, before getting a recording about their store hours and then a bookseller. But they had the book I wanted and the person I reached was very helpful. So 1 star for wasting my time on the phone and 5 stars for the nice person.

I usually only read Science Fiction. Their buyer usually knows whats up, and keeps the best of the new and old in the store. William Gibson(!) did a reading here, and signed my first edition. Never used the cafe, so no advice there. Great place to hang out and wait for your movie or reservations.

Im in love. Starbucks and books - whats not to love? This is a two story bookstore filled with music, books, stationery, and novelties. Theres even a fireplace for colder days and the views are absolutely breathtaking. You can see the Bay while sipping tea and looking through books.

Got an awesome Moleskin notebook for my church and Bible Study notes and a great Bible case for my Bible with the fish Christian logo on it made by Zondervan. Customer service reps are really nice and professional and helpful. I hope to continue to do business with them in the future.

This is a huge two story location with a Starbucks career inside. For those that need their which caffeine fix, note that there is a cashier window on the outside that usually has shorter lines than inside. The book selection is nice but there is a shortage of areas to sit.

This isnt the biggest Barnes & Noble nor does it have the largest selection, but bookstores are also judged by their atmosphere. This one has a cozy two-story layout thats very inviting to browse around in. On the second level theres a nice cafe with lots of seating.

I like to come here and enjoy a coffee and relax. Its always warm and not really crowded. I usually study here at times, no one to interrupt and cause issues with me. The staff are really nice and friendly. They always have all the books that I am looking for.

I love to come here to browse through the bestsellers, and look at the quirky stationeries on the ground floor. Theres also a Starbucks on the second floor. Can easily spend 1-2 hours here if you like books.

Good location on Bay Street, with plenty of space to browse through the books, sit down for coffee, or fiddle with the gadgets. Customer service was also very helpful pointing out hard-to-find book sections.

Been Searching for a particular book for awhile. I walked in was greeted right away and the employee had that book in my hand within minutes. That is fast friendly service. I am now a loyal customer.
